Darling, Let Me Spill the Tea on Tariffs and Tennessee

Op-ed by Brian Michael, Fab Gay House Hubby

Oh, Darlings! It's your Fabulous Gay House Husband of Nashville, Brian Michael, and today we're talking about something that's got me more worked up than a drag queen on a runway train: tariffs and their catastrophic impact on jobs in our beloved Tennessee. So, grab your coffee, sit back, and let me dish the dirt.

First off, dalings, let;s talk numbers. About 25% of cheif finacial officers have chopped their 2025 hiring plans, and that's a brutal blow to our state's economy. Tennessee's manufacturing sector is feeling the heat, and it's not pretty. Layoffs, hiring freezes, and a general sense of doom and gloom have settled over once-thriving industries.

Take Perdue Farms, they laid off 433 workers in Monterey, and that's just the tip if the iceberg. Over 4,000 factory jobs have been lost, and that's a heartbreaking reality for many families. These aren't just statistics, darlings; they're real people with real struggles, and it's time we start paying attention.

Now, let's talk steel. The industry's been hit with a 25% tariff, and it's a mess. Labor shortages and retention issues are plaguing the sector, and Tennessee, being close to regions like Mississippi County, Arkansas, isn't immune to this chaos. The steel industry's woes are a clear sign of what's to come if these tariffs keep rolling in.

The tariffs were supposed to proctect American jobs, but they've done the exact opposite. They've created an atmosphere of uncertainty, forcing busniesses to scale back and workers to suffer. The job looses and hiring freeze are a direct result of this misguided policy, and it's high time we called it out.

So, darlings, it's time demand better. We need policies that genuinely support workers and businesses, not ones that burden them with trade wars that benefit no one. Let's stand up for Tennessee and push for changes that will truly prioritize American workers and their livelihoods.

Remember, behind every job loss is a humand story, and it's our responsibility to listen, to empathize, and to fight for what's right. So, let's get put and make some noise, because Tennessee deserves better than this tariff turmoil.

Stay fabulous, darlings, and let's keep the conversation going.
